Biography

Greg Schwartz is a Democratic member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, representing the 12th Middlesex District. He assumed office on January 1, 2025, following his victory in the general election on November 5, 2024. Schwartz succeeded Ruth Balser and is set to serve his term until January 6, 2027.

Born and raised in Massachusetts, Schwartz has always been deeply connected to his community. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Harvard College and went on to pursue both a medical degree and a law degree from Yale University in 1998. His impressive academic background laid the foundation for a diverse and impactful career.

Before entering politics, Schwartz worked as a physician at two of the most prestigious hospitals in the state, Mass General and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. His experience in the medical field has given him a unique perspective on healthcare issues, which he has brought to his legislative work.

As a state representative, Schwartz has been a strong advocate for healthcare reform, transparency in consumer health insurance rights, and the expansion of access to patient-centered care for substance abuse disorders. He has sponsored and co-sponsored numerous bills aimed at improving the quality of healthcare for children and youth, facilitating the utilization of psychologists on healthcare teams, and increasing substance use prevention and awareness.

In addition to his work on healthcare, Schwartz has also been involved in efforts to address environmental issues, such as eliminating combined sewer overflows in Massachusetts waterways and supporting infrastructure replacement projects.
