Biography

Adam Scanlon, born in 1996 in Attleboro, Massachusetts, is a Democratic Party member who represents the 14th Bristol District in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. He assumed office on January 6, 2021.

Scanlon’s journey in public service began as a member of the North Attleboro Town Meeting from 2015 to 2019. He also served on the North Attleborough School Committee from 2017 to 2019 and was a member of the North Attleboro Town Council from 2019 to 2020.

In the 2020 election, Scanlon won the Massachusetts House of Representatives seat held by retiring incumbent Betty Poirier. In 2022, Scanlon went unopposed in both the Democratic Primary and General Election.

On the education front, Scanlon earned a Bachelor’s degree from Framingham State University and is pursuing a master’s degree in Public Administration at Northeastern University. He is openly gay and his career experience includes working for a nonprofit in Boston.

In terms of committee assignments, Scanlon has served on the House Committee on Bonding, Capital Expenditures and State Assets, Joint Committee on Community Development and Small Businesses, and Joint Committee on the Judiciary. Currently, he is the Vice Chair of the Intergovernmental Affairs Committee and a member of the Community Development and Small Businesses Joint Committee, Judiciary Joint Committee, and Joint Committee on Racial Equity, Civil Rights, and Inclusion.
