Zooey Zephyr is a member of the Democratic Party serving in the Montana House of Representatives. She represents District 95, having assumed office on January 6, 2025. Her current term is set to end on January 4, 2027.
Born in Billings, Montana, Zooey Zephyr has been a trailblazer in her political career. She is the first openly transgender person elected to the Montana Legislature, a milestone that has brought significant attention to her advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights and social justice. Zephyr’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Creative Writing from the University of Washington, as well as a Master’s degree in Creative Writing and Literary Criticism from the University of Montana. Her professional experience spans roles in higher education, including her work as a program manager at the University of Montana, where she oversaw curricula and contributed to the academic community.
Her political career began with her election to represent District 100 in the Montana House of Representatives in 2022. Following redistricting, she successfully ran for District 95 in 2024. Throughout her tenure, Zephyr has been a vocal advocate for progressive policies, focusing on issues such as healthcare access, education reform, and environmental sustainability. Her legislative efforts reflect her commitment to building a more inclusive and equitable society.
