Biography

Zachary Milo Ista, born on April 7, 1985, is an American attorney and politician. He is a member of the Democratic Party and currently serves as the Minority Leader of the North Dakota House of Representatives.

Ista was born in West Fargo, North Dakota. He pursued his Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education/Social Science from North Dakota State University (NDSU). Later, he earned his Juris Doctor (JD) degree from the American University, Washington College of Law.

Before his political career, Ista worked as an assistant state’s attorney for Grand Forks County. His journey in politics began when he was appointed to the North Dakota House of Representatives in 2020, succeeding Matt Eidson. His 43rd district represents Grand Forks.

In the House of Representatives, Ista served as the Assistant Minority Leader from January 3, 2023, to April 30, 2023. After April 30, 2023, he assumed the role of Minority Leader.

Ista is married to Leah and they have two children. He continues to serve his constituents with dedication and commitment, contributing to the development of his district and the state of North Dakota.
