Representative Willy Chotzen is a member of the Democratic Party serving in the Oregon House of Representatives. He represents District 46 and assumed office on January 13, 2025. His current term is set to conclude on January 11, 2027.
Born and raised in Ashland, Oregon, Willy Chotzen has dedicated his life to public service and advocacy for equity and justice. His journey began as a middle school math teacher, where he inspired students to view mathematics as a tool for empowerment and social change. Witnessing the systemic challenges faced by his students, he pursued a law degree at Harvard Law School. During his time there, he worked in a legal aid clinic, tackling issues such as wage theft, evictions, and foreclosures, while also teaching an undergraduate economics course.
After completing his education, Willy Chotzen returned to Oregon and joined Portland’s public defenders office. As Chief Attorney, he not only represented clients in court but also trained and mentored new attorneys, shaping policies to better serve the community. His commitment to justice extended beyond the courtroom, as he actively engaged with the community to address systemic inequities.
Willy Chotzen resides in Southeast Portland’s Brentwood-Darlington neighborhood with his wife, a dedicated career educator working for Portland Public Schools, and their two young children. His family serves as a constant reminder of the importance of building a more equitable and inclusive future.

As a legislator, he is focused on creating safer, healthier, and more equitable communities.
