Biography

William Wilfred Cobey (born May 13, 1939) is a former American politician who represented North Carolina’s 4th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. A member of the Republican Party, he served a single term in Congress from January 3, 1985, to January 3, 1987. During this period, he was part of the federal legislative delegation from North Carolina at a time of Republican ascendancy in national politics.

Cobey’s tenure in the House marked his principal period of federal public service. As a representative, he held the title of U.S. Representative for North Carolina’s 4th District, serving in the 99th Congress. He did not continue in office after his first term ended in 1987 and is regarded as a historical member of Congress from North Carolina.
