Vincent Perez is a Democratic member of the Texas House of Representatives, representing District 77. He assumed office on January 14, 2025, and his current term is set to end in January 2027.
Vincent Perez has a distinguished career in public service, marked by his dedication to improving the lives of his constituents in El Paso. Before joining the Texas House of Representatives, Perez served as the El Paso County Commissioner for Precinct 3 from 2013 to 2020. During his tenure, he earned a reputation as a reform-minded leader, spearheading initiatives in criminal justice reform, budget management, economic development, and transportation. His leadership was instrumental in modernizing many functions of El Paso County government.
Perez’s commitment to justice and equity was evident when he called for a state investigation into the judiciary’s appointment practices for low-income defendants. His efforts led to significant changes in the county’s criminal justice system, including the establishment of a pretrial office and the expansion of jail magistrate operations to ensure timely processing of defendants. Under his guidance, El Paso County became a national leader in best practices for criminal justice.
In addition to his work in criminal justice, Perez played a pivotal role in enhancing healthcare access in El Paso County. He supported the construction of state-of-the-art primary care clinics and advocated for comprehensive mobility plans that brought substantial investments in transportation infrastructure to the region.
Vincent Perez’s educational background includes degrees from Georgetown University, where he developed a strong foundation in government and public policy. His academic achievements, combined with his practical experience, have made him a respected voice in the Texas Legislature.
