Venise Karris is a member of the Democratic Party serving in the Nevada State Assembly. She represents District 10 and assumed office on November 6, 2024. Her current term is set to end on November 4, 2026.1
Born in Chicago, Illinois, Venise Karris pursued her education at the University of Illinois, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in 1980. Her professional journey has been diverse and impactful. She worked as a research scientist and later as a journeyman wireman, dedicating 27 years to her craft. During her career, she was actively involved with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 357, where she served as an Executive Board member and a Steward. She also co-founded the Women’s Committee for IBEW Local 357 and participated in the Volunteer Action Committee, a collaborative initiative between NECA and IBEW.
Karris moved to Las Vegas in 1995 with her two daughters and has been a resident of Assembly District 10 for nearly three decades. Her commitment to her community inspired her to transition into public service upon retirement. As a legislator, she has been involved in committees such as Government Affairs, Growth and Infrastructure, and Natural Resources. Her legislative efforts reflect her dedication to addressing issues like public works, industrial insurance, and housing for individuals experiencing homelessness.
