Tony Caplan is a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, representing Merrimack 8. He assumed office on December 7, 2022, and his current term ends on December 4, 2024. He ran for re-election to the New Hampshire House of Representatives to represent Merrimack 8 and won in the general election on November 8, 2022.
Tony Caplan was born in Caracas, Venezuela. He completed his high school and college education in Connecticut. He earned a B.A. in American/United States studies/civilization from Yale University in 1982. His career experience includes owning Hope Mountain Press and working as an editorial writer. He has also worked as a journalist with the Associated Press and United Press International.
In addition to his journalistic career, Tony Caplan has also worked as a high school Spanish teacher. He moved to Henniker, New Hampshire in 2000 and raised three children on a smallholding with vegetables, apples, and sheep. He served as the chair of the Henniker Energy Committee and the Henniker Democratic Town Committee.
His legislative interests include climate protection and the environment, worker’s rights, sustainable housing, and transportation issues. During his tenure, he was assigned to the Science, Technology and Energy Committee for the year 2023-2024, and the Environment and Agriculture Committee for the year 2021-2022.
