Tom Sexton, born on February 15, 1963, is an American politician currently serving as a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, representing District 19B. He assumed office on January 14, 2025, succeeding John Petersburg. Sexton is a member of the Republican Party and has been actively involved in politics and public service for many years.

Before entering politics, Sexton had a distinguished career in the U.S. Air Force, serving for 26 years and retiring with the rank of Colonel. During his military service, he earned several degrees, including a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Minnesota, a graduate degree in aeronautical sciences from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, a graduate degree in national security studies from the United States Air Force Air Command and Staff College, and a graduate degree in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College.

Sexton’s career experience extends beyond his military service. He has worked as a senior leader educator at the U.S. Army War College and as vice president of Construction Management at UniversalPegasus International. His extensive background in both military and civilian sectors has provided him with a unique perspective on leadership and governance.

In the 2024 general election, Sexton ran for the Minnesota House of Representatives to represent District 19B. He won the election with 66% of the vote, defeating his opponent, Edelgard Fernandez Mejia. His victory marked the beginning of his tenure in the Minnesota House of Representatives, where he has been actively working on various legislative initiatives and serving on multiple committees, including Capital Investment, Energy Finance and Policy, and State Government Finance and Policy.

Sexton resides in Waseca, Minnesota, with his wife, Jeanne Marie, and their two children. He is committed to serving his constituents and addressing the needs of his district through effective legislation and community engagement. His dedication to public service and his diverse background make him a valuable asset to the Minnesota House of Representatives.
