Thomas Oppel is a Democratic Party member serving in the New Hampshire House of Representatives. He represents Grafton District 9, having assumed office on December 4, 2024. His current term is set to conclude on December 2, 2026.

Thomas Oppel has a rich background in public service and community involvement. Before his tenure in the New Hampshire House of Representatives, he built a career in communications, management, and policy. He served as Chief of Staff to the Secretary of the Navy during the Obama Administration, where he played a pivotal role in shaping strategies and policies. Additionally, he has held leadership positions such as Executive Vice President at the American Sustainable Business Network and Communications Director for former Mississippi Governor Ray Mabus.

Oppel’s dedication to his community is evident in his local government involvement. Since moving to Canaan, New Hampshire, in 2000, he has actively participated in various elected and volunteer roles. He served on the Canaan Planning Board from 2005 to 2007 and was re-elected to the board in 2021. In 2023, he co-founded the Canaan Economic Development Committee, which he currently chairs. His efforts have also extended to volunteering on committees focused on improving local governance and community resources.
