Tara Anne Durant, born on October 26, 1972, hails from Des Moines, Iowa. She pursued her education at Coe College, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Communication. With a passion for education, Tara worked as an elementary school teacher and also contributed to United Way initiatives.

In her political career, Tara Durant has made significant strides. She served as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from the 28th district, having been elected in November 2021 and assuming office on January 12, 2022. As a Republican, she actively participated in legislative matters during her tenure in the House.

In 2024, Tara Durant transitioned to the Virginia State Senate, representing the 27th district. Her district encompasses all of Fredericksburg City, along with parts of Spotsylvania County and Stafford County.
