Biography

Sue Scherer is a full-time legislator and a member of the Democratic party. She has been serving as the Illinois state representative for the 96th district since January 2013. The 96th district includes all or parts of Springfield, Decatur, Taylorville, Blue Mound, Mount Auburn, Niantic, Edinburg, and Rochester.

Before her political career, Sue was a public school teacher for 34 years in Decatur and Maroa-Forsyth. She is a graduate of St. Teresa High School in Decatur. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Illinois State University and a Master of Education degree from Eastern Illinois University.

In the Illinois House of Representatives, Sue Scherer has served on several committees. She has been a part of the Appropriations-Elementary & Secondary Education Committee, the Consumer Protection Committee, and the Elementary & Secondary Education: Administration, Licensing & Charter School Committee. She has also served on the Veterans’ Affairs Committee.

Sue Scherer’s Springfield Office is located in the E-2 Stratton Office Building, Springfield, IL 62706. Her District Office is at 1353 E. Mound Road, Suite 203, Decatur, IL 62526.

Sue is a mother of four children and a grandmother of eight grandchildren.
