Sue Cahill is an American politician and educator. Born in 1959 in Kansas City, Missouri, she is a member of the Democratic Party and has been serving the 52nd district in the Iowa House of Representatives since 2021.

Biography

Sue Cahill is an American politician and educator. Born in 1959 in Kansas City, Missouri, she is a member of the Democratic Party and has been serving in the Iowa House of Representatives since 2021.

Education: Cahill graduated from Archbishop O’Hara High School. She earned a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Communications from Benedictine College and another Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Education from Buena Vista University. She also holds a Masters of Education from Graceland University.

Career: Before her political career, Cahill worked as a teacher in the Marshalltown Community School District. She launched her career in politics in 2017 when she was elected to a seat on the Marshalltown City Council representing the First Ward, where she served for three years.

In 2020, Cahill was elected to serve in the Iowa House of Representatives for the 71st District. She assumed office on January 11, 2021. She ran unopposed in the Democratic primary and defeated Republican nominee Tony Reed in the November general election.

In the 2022 general election, Cahill ran unopposed in the 52nd district, a new district which was created during the 2020 redistricting cycle. She is a member of the administration and rules committee, the education committee, the labor committee and ranking member of the veterans affairs committee.

Personal Life: Cahill is a mother to six sons. Her husband, John, passed away from colon cancer in 2006.
