Biography

Stewart Brett McKinney (born January 30, 1931) was a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives from Connecticut. He represented Connecticut’s 4th congressional district and served as a federal legislator for more than sixteen years. His tenure in Congress began on January 21, 1971, and continued until May 7, 1987, during which time he completed nine terms in office.

As a representative, McKinney served in the U.S. House as a member of the Republican Party, focusing his career on national legislative work on behalf of his Connecticut constituents. He held the formal role of Representative throughout his time in Congress and is recognized as a historical member of Congress from Connecticut. McKinney’s service concluded in 1987, marking the end of a long period of continuous representation for the 4th district.
