Appointment and Goals
In September 2023, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham appointed McCutcheon to fill the District 42 state Senate seat vacated by Sen. Gay Kernan. The district spans portions of Chavez, Eddy, and Lea counties. McCutcheon’s term began immediately and will continue until the next general election.
Advocacy and Priorities
As a senator, McCutcheon advocates for the oil and gas industry, border security, and the rights of gun owners. He believes in preserving conservative values and promoting economic growth in southeast New Mexico. Despite being a newcomer to the Senate, McCutcheon is determined to make a positive impact.
