Born and raised in Aztec, New Mexico, Steve Lanier grew up on a small farm in Cedar Hill. Lanier dedicated nearly three decades of his life to education, working as a teacher and coach at Aztec High School. His career included coaching football and leading the track and cross-country teams, roles that allowed him to mentor young athletes and instill values of teamwork and leadership.
Lanier’s commitment to his community extends beyond the classroom. He has been actively involved in local initiatives and enjoys spending time with his family at Navajo Lake. His wife, Sandra, runs a successful graphic design business in Aztec and serves as a San Juan County Commissioner. Together, they have contributed significantly to the well-being and development of their community.
In the New Mexico State Senate, Lanier serves on the Senate Finance Committee and has co-sponsored legislation aimed at addressing key issues in the state. His legislative efforts include a bill to make swatting a fourth-degree felony and another to revise voter ID requirements.
