Biography

Shawn Sweeney grew up in Montpelier down the road from the Statehouse. After graduating from Paul Smith’s College and the University of Houston, he owned the Front & Outback nightclub in Burlington, VT. Soon after, he entered the feature film business moving to New York City. In 1998 he returned to Vermont and changed careers, entering the construction business. In 2004, he and his wife built a home in Shelburne, started a design build company, stayed busy raising their two sons and became involved with the Shelburne community. He coached youth sports and volunteered at both the Shelburne Community School and Champlain Valley Union High School. For many years, he was president of the Champlain Valley School District football program and head official for the Burlington Country Club swim team. He has been a board member of Nature Israel/ASPNI since 2008, serving as Vice Chair up until this year. Shawn recently served on the Shelburne Planning Commission but has since stepped down to begin his role as a Legislator.
