Russell L. Ott is a Democratic Party member serving in the South Carolina State Senate, representing District 26. He assumed office on November 11, 2024, and his current term is set to end on November 13, 2028.

Born and raised in St. Matthews, South Carolina, Russell Ott has deep roots in his community. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in English from Clemson University and later pursued a Master of Public Administration from the University of South Carolina. Before entering politics, Ott worked as a lobbyist for the South Carolina Farm Bureau Federation, where he spent eight years advocating for agricultural interests. His professional background also includes serving as a town administrator for several municipalities, showcasing his commitment to public service at the local level.

Ott’s political journey began in 2013 when he was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives in a special election to fill the seat vacated by his father, Harry L. Ott Jr. He represented District 93 in the House until 2024, during which time he served on various committees and held leadership roles, including Assistant Minority Leader. His tenure in the House was marked by his dedication to legislative oversight and economic development.

In 2024, Ott transitioned to the South Carolina State Senate, succeeding Nikki Setzler in representing District 26. His campaign emphasized his experience, community ties, and vision for the future.
