Biography

Roy Ada is a Republican member of the Northern Mariana Islands House of Representatives, representing District 1 (Saipan). Ada, whose full name is Roy Christopher Aldan Ada, was first elected in November 2020 and took office in January 2021, joining a legislature in which Republicans held only five seats. Ada won a second term in 2022 and a third in 2024, and is on the ballot again in District 1 for the November 2026 general election.1

In February 2025 the five-member House minority bloc selected Ada as minority leader, replacing Representative Patrick H. San Nicolas of Tinian, who had led the minority in the previous House. The bloc informed Speaker Edmund S. Villagomez of the change in a joint letter. The minority is made up of Republicans and independents who are not part of the independent and Democratic coalition that controls the chamber’s leadership.

Ada is a member of the House committees on Education and on Ways and Means. Within the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation, the body of Saipan and Northern Islands lawmakers that handles local legislation, Ada chairs the Standing Committee on Natural Resources.
