Biography

Rob Bishop serves as a Republican Representative for District 6 in the Utah state legislature.

Rob Bishop began serving in the Utah House on May 6, 2026, after Republican delegates chose him to fill the District 6 vacancy left by the resignation of Representative Matthew Gwynn. The district includes parts of Box Elder and Weber counties. Bishop previously served in the Utah House from 1978 to 1994, including as House majority leader and as Speaker from 1992 to 1994, and chaired the Utah Republican Party from 1997 to 2001. He represented Utah’s 1st Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2003 to 2021, where he chaired the House Natural Resources Committee. A graduate of the University of Utah, he taught high school government, history and German for many years, and he lives in Brigham City with his wife, Jeralynn.
