Biography

Rick Edmonds

Born on September 12, 1956, in Shreveport, Louisiana, Richard Phillip Edmonds Jr., known as Rick Edmonds, is an American pastor and politician from the U.S. state of Louisiana. A member of the Republican Party, he represents East Baton Rouge Parish in the Louisiana Senate.

Education

Edmonds holds multiple degrees. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from East Texas Baptist University and a Masters of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He has also done his Doctoral Studies at New Orleans Theological Seminary and has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate.

Political Career

Edmonds began his political career in the Louisiana House of Representatives, representing Louisiana’s District 66. During his tenure, he held several key positions such as the Chairman of House Municipal, Parochial and Cultural Affairs, Chairman of the Joint Medicaid Oversight Committee, the House Chair of the Statutory Dedication Subcommittee for Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget, and a member of the House Appropriations Committee, and the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget. He was also a member of the Capital Region Legislative Delegation and the Treasurer of the Louisiana Republican Legislative Delegation.

In 2023, Edmonds won the election to the Louisiana State Senate to represent District 6. He assumed office on January 8, 2024.

Ministry Experience

Edmonds has over forty years of ministry experience. He has pastored several churches in Louisiana and Florida, leading each of them to be evangelistic and missional minded churches. He most recently pastored the Calvary Baptist Church in Shreveport. He is currently the Senior Pastor at First Baptist Church of McComb.

Personal Life

Rick and Cindy are high school sweethearts and have been happily married for over forty-nine years. They are the proud parents of four sons, four beautiful daughter-in-laws, and eight grandchildren.
