Ray Pickett is a Republican member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, representing the 93rd district. The district is based in Ashe and Watauga counties. He assumed office on January 1, 2021, after defeating incumbent Democrat Carl Ray Russell in the 2020 election.
Pickett’s career experience includes co-managing the Blowing Rock Inn. He served as the president of the Rotary Club of Blowing Rock. He was a local elected official who often worked with state representatives to create legislation. Those experiences ultimately inspired him to pursue state office so he could not only help his district, but all of North Carolina.
As of the 2020 Census, North Carolina state representatives represented an average of 87,116 residents. After the 2010 Census, each member represented 79,715 residents. Pickett is running for re-election to the North Carolina House of Representatives to represent District 93. He is on the ballot in the general election on November 5, 2024.
In the 2023-2024 session, Pickett was assigned to the following committees: Alcoholic Beverage Control Committee (Vice Chair), Appropriations Committee, Appropriations on Capital Committee, Education - Universities Committee (Chair), Environment Committee, Local Government Committee, House Transportation Committee, and UNC BOG Nominations Committee.
