Biography

Rachel Saunders Plakon is an American politician serving as a member of the Florida House of Representatives for the 36th district. She assumed office on November 8, 2022.

Born on June 17, 1979, in Dothan, Alabama, Rachel moved to Florida in 2013. She is married to Scott Plakon and they have a child named Esther Grace “Gracie”. Rachel is a Christian by faith and enjoys reading, singing, and surfing in her leisure time.

Rachel earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in mass media communication and journalism from Oral Roberts University and a Master of Business Administration from Florida International University.

In 2001 and 2002, Rachel served as a community liaison and spokesperson for Governor Jeb Bush. She later worked as a real estate agent for Keller Williams Realty and land specialist for NAI Realvest.

Since 2018, Rachel has been a member of the Florida Commission on the Status of Women. She also owns a real estate investment company.

In March 2023, Rachel sponsored HB 1521 in the Florida State Senate, an anti-trans bathroom bill, which is supported by Rep. Webster Barnaby, R-Deltona, who called trans people “demons” and “mutants”.

Rachel’s career is marked by her dedication to public service and her commitment to the people of Florida’s 36th district.
