Biography

Pete Goicoechea (born September 8, 1949, Salt Lake City) is a Nevada rancher and Republican politician. He served as State Senator for the 19th district from 2012 to 2024, following a decade in the Nevada Assembly (2002–2012), where he was House Minority Leader from 2009 to 2012. Before his legislative career, Goicoechea spent 16 years as a Eureka County Commissioner and worked for the county road department.

Goicoechea is of Basque descent; his grandfather immigrated from the Bay of Biscay in the early 20th century. He attended Utah State University and has operated his ranch since 1970. Over the years, he has served on the State Land Use Planning Advisory Council, Nevada Grazing Board, and as Director of the Nevada Water Resource Association. He is also active with the Eureka Volunteer Fire Department, E Clampus Vitus, the Humboldt River Authority, and the Nevada Rural Health Center.

In December 2024, Goicoechea was appointed by Governor Joe Lombardo to the Nevada Board of Regents, representing District 8. He and his wife Gladys have two children and remain active in rural Nevada community life.
