Biography

Charles Patrick Roberts, born April 20, 1936, is a retired American politician and journalist. He served as a U.S. Senator from Kansas from 1997 to 2021 and was a member of the Republican Party. Roberts’ political career includes eight terms in the U.S. House of Representatives (1981–1997), chairmanship of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee, and the Senate Intelligence Committee. He is a Kansas State University graduate and a former U.S. Marine Corps First Lieutenant. Roberts chose not to seek reelection in 2020 and was succeeded by Representative Roger Marshall.
