Biography

State Representative Nate Shannon is currently in his third term, representing the recently established 58th House District. This district encompasses the city of Utica, along with sections of Sterling Heights, Warren, and Shelby Township in Macomb County.

Having earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from Oakland University and a master’s degree in secondary education from Wayne State University, Shannon brings a strong educational background to his role. Prior to his tenure in the state Legislature, which commenced in 2019, he dedicated a decade to teaching high school economics, history, and government with L’Anse Creuse Public Schools in Clinton Township. Additionally, Shannon served on the Sterling Heights City Council.

In the 102nd Legislature, Representative Shannon will assume the role of chair for the Transportation, Mobility, and Infrastructure Committee. Furthermore, he will serve as a member of the Local Government and Municipal Finance; Natural Resources, Environment, Tourism, and Outdoor Recreation; and Education committees.

Outside of his professional life, Shannon shares a family with his wife, Lori, and they are proud parents of three children.
