Biography

Mike Schatz was born on March 28, 1952. He is an American politician and a member of the Republican Party. He has been serving in the North Dakota House of Representatives since 2008. Before his current term, he also served in the House from 1988 to 1990.

Schatz is a retired teacher and coach, and a former farmer and rancher. He graduated from New England High School and earned a B.S. from Minot State University in 1976. His career experience includes working as a farmer/rancher, a teacher, and a coach.

He has held several positions of responsibility in his career. He served as the Vice President of the Education Standards & Practices Board and the President of the New England Park Board. He is a Lifetime Member of the Past ND Coaches Association, NRA, ND Stockmen’s Association, and ND Coaches Hall of Fame. He was also the Former Executive Director of the State Republican Party.

Schatz is currently representing District 39 in the North Dakota House of Representatives. He assumed office on December 1, 2022. His current term ends on December 1, 2026.

In his political career, Schatz has sponsored several bills and has been a member of various committees. He has been a part of the Interim Administrative Rules Committee, Budget Section, Budget Section - Education and Environment Division, Higher Education Committee, Standing Appropriations, Appropriations - Education and Environment Division, and Procedural (Chairman).

Schatz is married to Patti and they have four children and four grandchildren.
