Dr. Mike Fanning, a native and lifelong South Carolinian, holds degrees from Wofford College, Benedict College, and the University of South Carolina (where he earned a doctorate in Educational Leadership & Policy). He is an active-service veteran of the US Army and has a background as a former teacher. Since 2016, he has been serving as a member of the South Carolina Senate, representing the 17th District, which includes Chester, Fairfield, and York Counties. Fanning is affiliated with the Democratic party.

Born on April 4, 1967, in Columbia, South Carolina, Mike Fanning has made significant contributions to education and public service. He received his B.A. from Wofford College in 1991 and went on to earn an M.S. (1996), Ed.S. (1997), and a Ph.D. (2008) from the University of South Carolina. Additionally, he holds a teaching certificate from Benedict College, which reflects his commitment to education.
