Biography

CURRENT SERVICE Sen. Michele Hoitenga was elected to the Michigan state Senate in 2022 to represent the residents of the 36th District, which includes Alpena, Alcona, Arenac, Crawford, Iosco, Kalkaska, Missaukee, Montmorency, Ogemaw, Oscoda, Otsego, Presque Isle, Roscommon and Wexford counties, along with portions of Bay and Manistee counties.

PUBLIC SERVICE From 2016 to 2022, Hoitenga served as a member of the Michigan House of Representatives, elected by the residents of the 102nd District. During that time, she served as chair of the House Committee on Communications and Technology, vice chair of the House Committee on Regulatory Reform, and as a member of the Energy and Oversight committees.

COMMUNITY Hoitenga served as the mayor of Manton from 2013 to 2016. She has also served as treasurer and president of the Manton Chamber of Commerce and as vice chair of the Wexford County Republican Party. In addition, she is a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and director of the Wexford County Women on Target.

FAMILY The senator and her husband, Philip, own PhD Consulting, an energy consulting business, and live in Manton. They have two sons, Greg and Tyler, and she is a proud military mom and “Mimi” to grandson, Rhett.
