Biography

Michael Johnson is an American politician from the South Carolina Republican Party. He was elected to the South Carolina Senate in the 2020 election to serve the 16th Senate District, which includes Lancaster and York counties. Johnson has held this position since 2020, succeeding longtime Senator Greg Gregory, who retired in 2019. Prior to his political career, Johnson worked as an attorney.

Born on November 22, 1970, in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Johnson graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in 1993. He later earned his Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1996. In 2024, he married Amy E. Johnson, and they have two children named Cole and Grace.

Apart from his legislative role, Johnson has been actively involved in community service. He served on the Fort Mill School Board from 2005 to 2012 and is a member of the Fort Mill Rotary Club. Additionally, he participated in the Leadership South Carolina class and graduated from the Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership York County program.
