Biography

MELANIE CARPENTER of Hyde Park, Lamoille County, Democrat, received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont in biology and master’s degree in arts for education from Johnson State College. She also attended St. Michael’s College to receive licensure in middle school administration. She lives with her husband and daughter in Hyde Park, where they have owned and operated Zack Woods Herb Farm for 24 years. In addition to farming, Melanie served as principal of Stowe Middle School from 2008 to 2013. She was also a 7th and 8th grade teacher and literacy specialist at People’s Academy Middle school in Morrisville from 2000-2008. Melanie served on the United Plant Savers Conservation Board 2014-2019 and has worked with the Women’s March in Washington, D.C. as a member of their de-escalation and safety teams. Member of the House of Representatives: 2023-present.
