Matthew Willard is an American politician who is currently serving as a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives from the 97th district. He assumed office on January 13, 2020.
Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, Matthew was brought up in a family that values faith, community service, education, and altruism. He attended elementary school at Corpus Christi, Stuart Hall for middle school, and is a graduate of Jesuit High School. He furthered his education by earning a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing from the University of New Orleans.
Before his political career, Matthew worked as an account executive at Schulkens Communications from 2012 to 2016. He then joined Fluence Analytics, where he worked as a growth specialist and later as a senior manager for marketing and communications.
In November 2019, Matthew was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives and assumed office on January 13, 2020. His district includes the Gentilly, Mid-City, and Bayou St. John neighborhoods in New Orleans. He serves on the Ways and Means, Insurance, and Municipal, Parochial, and Cultural Affairs committees in the House of Representatives.
In December 2023, Matthew was elected as the leader of the House Democratic caucus, making him the Minority Leader of the Louisiana House of Representatives. He assumed this office on January 8, 2024.
