Biography

Louis Ruiz (born August 7, 1953) is a Democratic member of the Kansas House of Representatives, representing several districts in Kansas City since 2005. He is a retired employee of Lucent Technologies.

He has been a member of the Kansas House of Representatives from the 31st district since January 14, 2013, preceded by Stan Frownfelter. Before that, he was a member of the Kansas House of Representatives from the 32nd district from January 10, 2005 – January 14, 2013, preceded by Rick Rehorn and succeeded by Michael Peterson.

In terms of committee membership, he has served on the Commerce and Labor (as Ranking Member), Federal and State Affairs, and Government Efficiency and Fiscal Oversight committees. He has also been a part of the Joint Committee on Health Policy Oversight.

In the 2015 session, Ruiz began serving as Assistant Minority Leader. His professional experience includes working for Lucent Technologies. He has been assigned to various committees throughout his tenure, including the House Education Committee, House Federal and State Affairs Committee, Kansas Security Committee, and Commerce, Labor and Economic Development Committee.

In the 2022 general election for Kansas House of Representatives District 31, incumbent Louis Ruiz defeated Dennis Grindel. He won the general election on November 8, 2022, and his current term ends on January 13, 2025.
