Biography

Lisie Burgos is a Proyecto Dignidad member of the Puerto Rico House of Representatives, serving at large. Burgos, whose full name is Lisie Janet Burgos Muñiz, was first elected in November 2020, the first election in which Proyecto Dignidad appeared on the ballot, and took office in January 2021 as the party’s only member of the House. Burgos was re-elected to an at-large seat in 2024 with about 85,000 votes and serves in the 2025 to 2028 term.1

Burgos is from Yauco. Burgos earned a bachelor’s degree in human resources management and a Juris Doctor from the Inter American University of Puerto Rico, later adding a master of laws degree, and practices law privately in areas including family law, torts, administrative law and notarial work.

In the House, Burgos has concentrated on education and on the social and family policy agenda of Proyecto Dignidad. Measures Burgos has filed include proposals on services for deaf students, a 2021 bill to bar hormone therapy for minors that was defeated in committee, and a 2023 bill that would have made drag performances in front of minors a criminal offense, a proposal that drew opposition from LGBT advocates. In February 2024 Burgos was removed from the House chamber after refusing to comply with a mask requirement.
