Biography

Born in Richmond, Virginia, on December 21, 1976, Lamont Bagby is an American politician affiliated with the Democratic Party. He received his education from Virginia Commonwealth University (M.Ed in Educational Leadership) and Norfolk State University (B.S. in Business Education). Lamont Bagby is married to Jevata Herman Bagby.

Before serving in the Senate, Bagby was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 2015 to 2023. In March 2023, he won a special election to represent the 14th District, which includes parts of Henrico County and Richmond City.

Senator Bagby is also the Chair of the bicameral Virginia Legislative Black Caucus. His commitment to education as the great equalizer is evident, having earned degrees from both Norfolk State and Virginia Commonwealth Universities.

In addition to his legislative work, Bagby previously served on the Henrico County School Board. His dedication to public service and advocacy continues to shape his impactful career in Virginia politics.
