Kevin P. Egan (born June 2, 1964) is an American Democratic Party politician serving as a member of the New Jersey General Assembly for the 17th legislative district. He assumed office on January 9, 2024, succeeding his father, Joseph V. Egan, who served in the Assembly for 22 years.
Biography: Egan attended Rutgers University and has been a resident of New Brunswick, New Jersey. He was an aide to Joseph V. Egan in the General Assembly, was employed by the New Jersey Schools Development Authority, and has served on the Board of Governors of Rutgers University since 2021. Additionally, he is employed as the assistant business manager for Local 456 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
Egan’s political career includes serving on the New Brunswick City Council from 2011 until 2023. In the 2023 New Jersey General Assembly election, Egan and his incumbent running mate, Joseph Danielsen, defeated Republicans Susan Hucko and Dhimant G. Patel.
District 17: The 17th legislative district in the New Jersey Legislature comprises Middlesex and Somerset counties. Egan currently represents this district alongside Senator Bob Smith (D) and Assemblyman Joseph Danielsen (D).
Electoral History: In the 2023 general election, Egan secured victory with 20,159 votes (36.3%), while Joseph Danielsen (incumbent) received 20,064 votes (36.2%). The Republican candidates, Susan Hucko and Dhimant G. Patel, received 7,771 (14.0%) and 7,473 (13.5%) votes, respectively. The total voter turnout was 55,467.
