Biography

Kent M. Williams (born September 15, 1960) is a Democratic member of the South Carolina Senate, representing the 30th District. His district includes Dillon, Florence, Horry, Marion, and Marlboro Counties. Williams has been an incumbent since 2004.

In the 2016 election, he defeated Patrick Richardson in the Democratic primary and went on to win the uncontested general election. Williams was reelected in 2020 and is currently facing a challenge from Republican Mayor of Marion, Rodney Berry, in the 2024 election.

Apart from his political career, Senator Williams is an active alumnus of South Carolina State University. He has tirelessly advocated for improving the institution and raising awareness about the need to replace aging infrastructure at the University.
