Kelvin Datcher is a dedicated public servant and a prominent figure in Alabama politics. He currently serves as a Democratic member of the Alabama House of Representatives, representing District 52. Datcher assumed office on October 2, 2024, after winning a special election held on October 1, 2024. His district includes parts of Birmingham, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and sections of Fairfield and Homewood.

Datcher’s journey into politics is marked by a strong commitment to community service and advocacy. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Gettysburg College in 1992. Over the years, he has accumulated a wealth of experience in various roles that have prepared him for his current position. His career includes serving as the director of teaching tolerance at the Southern Poverty Law Center, a sports information director at Alabama State University, and an administrative/policy analyst for the Jefferson County Department of Health.

In addition to his professional roles, Datcher has been actively involved in local government and community development. He served as the chief of staff to the city councilmember for District Six of the Birmingham City Council and as the director of development for REV Birmingham.
