Biography

Kelda Helen Roys, born on June 24, 1979, is an American tech entrepreneur, business owner, attorney, and Democratic politician hailing from Madison, Wisconsin. She currently serves as a member of the Wisconsin Senate, representing the 26th Senate district since 2021. Prior to her role in the Senate, Roys served two terms in the Wisconsin State Assembly from 2009 to 2013.

Roys’ upbringing was shaped by her mother’s work as a social worker, her stepfather’s environmental advocacy, and her father’s background as a retired prosecutor and law enforcement officer. She graduated from Madison East High School in 1997 and went on to pursue her education at New York University, where she designed her own major in politics, drama, and cultural studies, earning a B.A. magna cum laude in 2000. Later, in 2004, she received her J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Wisconsin Law School, with a focus on civil rights and international law. During her college years, Roys also worked full-time as a real estate agent.

In addition to her political career, Kelda Roys has been actively involved in various community organizations, serving on the boards of Clean Lakes Alliance, TEMPO Madison, Citizen Action of Wisconsin, and more. She has also worked as an attorney, advocated for women’s rights, and founded her own real estate startup called OpenHomes.

As a mom and stepmom of five, Roys remains committed to building a Wisconsin where everyone has the opportunity to succeed..
