Katrina Shankland, born on August 4, 1987, hails from Wausau, Wisconsin, and was raised in rural Wittenberg. As a child, she showcased her spelling prowess by winning Wisconsin’s Badger State Spelling Bee in 2000. After graduating as valedictorian from Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School in 2005, she pursued her education at various institutions, including the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and Latin American studies.

Katrina’s commitment to community service led her to become a community organizer for the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. In 2012, she entered the Democratic primary race for the Wisconsin State Assembly in the 71st district, ultimately winning the seat. Since 2013, she has diligently represented her constituents, securing re-election in subsequent terms. Her dedication extends beyond state politics; in 2024, she announced her candidacy for the United States House of Representatives in Wisconsin’s 3rd congressional district.
