Biography

Kai Juanna Belton is a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives, representing District 100. She is a member of the Democratic Party and the Working Families Party. She assumed office on March 3, 2023, and her current term ends on January 8, 2025.

Belton ran in a special election to the Connecticut House of Representatives to represent District 100. She won in the special general election on February 28, 2023. She lives in Middletown, Connecticut.

Belton earned a master’s degree in social work from Springfield College. Her career experience includes working as the clinical director for safe connect of the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence, the executive director of New Horizons Domestic Violence Services, and the director of CT Strong.

In the special general election for Connecticut House of Representatives District 100, Belton defeated Deborah Kleckowski, securing 68.9% of the votes. The total votes in this election were 2,492.

Belton is the first Black woman in Middletown history to become a state representative. She’s also a 2021 Emerge CT graduate and serves as Third Vice President and Education Chair of the Middlesex NAACP. As a community leader, she has been a fierce advocate for children and families in Middlesex county.
