Biography

Senator Julia Kirt was elected to the Oklahoma State Senate in 2018. Kirt represents District 30 including parts of northwest Oklahoma City, Bethany and Warr Acres.

During her first term, Kirt helped lead improvements in access to mental health treatment as a founding member and Co-Chair of the Legislative Mental Health Caucus. Senator Kirt also served as a Co-chair of the Waiting List Caucus, which connects families, services providers and lawmakers to move the needle toward robust, inclusive disability services.

Before her election, Senator Kirt led statewide arts and culture nonprofit organizations for almost 20 years. She received a Governor’s Arts Award for her leadership of Oklahomans for the Arts and the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition.

Kirt graduated from Leadership OKC Class XXI. She is an active volunteer leader in many educational and community organizations, including serving as a Board Member for Downtown Strategic Initiatives and a Task Force member for Read OKC. She is a member of Rotary Club 29 and a graduate of the Salt and Light Leadership Training and the Leadership Exchange Academy. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Masters in Art History and Macalester College in St Paul, MN with a Bachelors.

Kirt lives in Oklahoma City with her husband, Nathan Guilford, and their two children. Nathan owns a small business in NW OKC. The family participates actively at their church, St Paul’s Episcopal. The children attend Classen SAS Middle School and Northwest Classen High School and are involved in a wide array of artistic and athletic pursuits.
