Biography

Joseph Patrick McNamara is an American politician who represents Virginia’s 40th district in the House of Delegates. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, McNamara earned a B.S. in commerce, accounting, and finance from the University of Virginia in 1985.

As a Republican, McNamara has consistently championed conservative principles during his tenure. His voting record reflects his commitment to fiscal integrity, individual rights, and family values. Notably, he played a key role in delivering the largest tax cut in 30 years and has consistently voted against harmful gun control measures. Additionally, McNamara is a staunch advocate for the right to life.

Before entering politics, McNamara worked as an accountant and is the only licensed CPA in the Virginia House of Delegates. Beyond his legislative duties, he also owns an ice cream shop in Roanoke County, Virginia.
