Johnny Chastain is an American politician and a member of the Republican Party. He currently represents the 7th district in the Georgia House of Representatives. He assumed office on February 6, 2023, and his current term ends on January 13, 2025.1
Chastain was born in and lives in Georgia. Before running for office, Chastain had a career in the banking industry. He served as an executive of United Community Bank. His experience in the banking industry led him to be assigned to the Banks & Banking and Small Business Development Committees in the Georgia House of Representatives.
Chastain ran in a special election to the Georgia House of Representatives to represent District 7. He won in the special general runoff election on January 31, 2023. In the first round of the special election, Chastain placed second out of five candidates. He faced Sheree Ralston in the runoff and narrowly defeated her. Observers considered his victory an upset, as Ralston had the backing of several prominent leaders, including governor Brian Kemp.
In the special general runoff election for Georgia House of Representatives District 7, Chastain received 52.8% of the votes (4,565 votes), defeating Sheree Ralston who received 47.2% of the votes (4,085 votes). The total votes in this election were 8,650.
