Biography

John Kascenska, Republican, of East Burke, Caledonia County, was born in Torrington, Connecticut. John’s family moved to Vermont in 1969, and he has lived in the Northeast Kingdom since 1992. John is a graduate of Poultney High School and Lyndon State College, and he holds graduate degrees from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and North Carolina State University. John worked in higher education for 32 years, which included 25 years in the Vermont State College’s System as a faculty member and an academic dean. He has served his community as President of the Burke Area Chamber of Commerce; Burke Justice of the Peace; President of Lyndon Rescue, Inc.; Trustee and Chair of the Board of Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital; Honorary member of the Vermont State University – Lyndon Alumni Council; and a committee member for Northeast Kingdom Broadband. John is the founder and owner of an outdoor recreation business in Vermont that provides nationally recognized certification programs in urban and wilderness medicine, and he works at Mt. Washington in New Hampshire, teaching avalanche education and rescue courses. Previous service as a State Representative includes membership on the House Committee on Commerce and Economic Development and on the VT National Guard and Military Affairs Caucus.
