James J. Kennedy (born February 9, 1953) is a Democratic Party politician who has represented the 22nd Legislative District in the New Jersey General Assembly since taking office in January 2016. Prior to his legislative career, Kennedy served as Mayor of Rahway, New Jersey from 1991 through 2010, when he declined to seek a sixth term.

Assemblyman Kennedy has a diverse background. He is the Principal of Skye Consulting, which focuses on community development, world water issues, and cultural arts. Additionally, he was the former owner of Kennedy Jewelers in Rahway.

In the New Jersey General Assembly, Kennedy has been an active member, serving on several committees. Notably, he chairs the Environment and Solid Waste Committee and is the Vice-Chair of the Telecommunications and Utilities Committee. His commitment to environmental issues and sustainable practices has been evident throughout his tenure.
