Jerry Nieves is a New Progressive Party (Partido Nuevo Progresista) member of the Puerto Rico House of Representatives, representing District 13. Nieves, whose full name is Jerry Zahamir Nieves Rosario, was first elected in the November 5, 2024, general election, taking about 46 percent of the vote in a four-way race; the Popular Democratic Party candidate, Yulixa Paredes Albarrán, finished second with about 33 percent. Nieves took office on January 2, 2025, for a term that runs to January 2029, succeeding Gabriel Rodríguez Aguiló, who had represented the district since 2005.1
District 13 lies on the north coast of Puerto Rico and takes in communities in the municipalities of Arecibo, Barceloneta, Florida and Manatí.
In the House, Nieves chairs the Committee on the Northern Region (Comisión de la Región Norte), which examines infrastructure and public service problems affecting the island’s northern municipalities. Much of the legislative work Nieves has pursued deals with utilities and basic services in the district: resolutions filed by Nieves have called for investigations into recurring interruptions of drinking water service, voltage fluctuations and power outages in Arecibo and Barceloneta, malfunctioning traffic signals across the four municipalities, and landslides affecting roads in Manatí. In October 2026, Nieves presided over a committee meeting with water utility officials, a contractor and the mayor of Arecibo on temporary wastewater pumps in that municipality. Other measures carrying the name of Nieves have addressed youth and school sports, health care costs, worker retraining after business closures in the north, and consumer protection.
