Biography

State Sen. Jean Leising has represented Senate District 42 since she was elected to the State Senate in 2008, after previously serving from 1988-96. She serves Decatur, Fayette, Ripley, and Rush counties and portions of Franklin, Jennings, and Shelby counties.

Leising is the chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and the ranking member of the Senate Committee on Natural Resources. She also serves as a member of the Senate Committees on Commerce and Technology; Education and Career Development; Health and Provider Services; and Utilities.

Leising is a retired nurse and works as a travel agent and farmer. She graduated from Sunman High School as salutatorian in 1966 and from the Good Samaritan School of Nursing in Cincinnati, Ohio, with honors in 1969.

Leising and her husband, Frank, live on their farm in Oldenburg, where they spend time with their three grown children and eight grandchildren.
