James Newsom is a member of the Democratic Party serving in the New Hampshire House of Representatives. He represents Merrimack District 9. Newsom assumed office on December 4, 2024, and his current term is set to end on December 2, 2026.
James Newsom has a diverse and accomplished background. Before entering politics, he practiced law for eight years and later became a Land Protection Specialist at the Harris Center for Conservation Education. This role allowed him to contribute significantly to land conservation efforts, helping to protect over 25,000 acres of land. His academic credentials are equally impressive, holding degrees in Public Policy and Management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, a Juris Doctor from Washington University in St. Louis, and a Master’s in Resource Management and Conservation from Antioch University New England.
Beyond his professional achievements, Newsom has been deeply involved in his local community. He has served as Hopkinton’s School Meeting Moderator for over a decade, chaired the Conservation Commission for four years, and led the Library Foundation for six years. His commitment to civic engagement extends to his membership in the Hopkinton Rotary Club, where he has served two terms as president. Newsom is also a certified commercial drone pilot, a youth and high school lacrosse referee, and an avid fisherman who enjoys fly tying.
James Newsom resides in Hopkinton, New Hampshire, with his wife, Susanna. The couple has twin sons who are currently in college. His dedication to public service, combined with his professional expertise and community involvement, underscores his commitment to making a positive impact in his district and beyond.
